Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) unlocks the 2-day delivery badge — a signal that can lift both your ranking and your Buy Box win-rate. But WFS isn't free, and the badge isn't always worth what it costs. Here's how to run the math instead of guessing.
What the 2-day badge actually does
The badge does two things at once. It's a conversion lever — shoppers are more likely to buy when they see fast, free delivery — and a ranking lever, because Polaris weighs fulfillment speed and reliability. On close calls for the Buy Box, the badge often tips it your way. That combined effect is why it matters more than it looks.
The costs to weigh
WFS charges fulfillment fees (based on weight and dimensions) plus storage. The real question isn't "is WFS expensive?" — it's "does the lift in conversion and ranking more than cover the added fee, given my price and margin?" For a higher-priced, lighter, faster-moving product, the badge usually pays for itself. For a low-price, heavy, or slow-moving product, the fees can eat the gain.
A simple way to think about it
- Per-unit fee impact: estimate the WFS fulfillment + storage fee per unit, and express it as a percentage of your selling price. The higher that percentage, the harder the badge has to work to pay off.
- Conversion lift: the badge tends to help most where shoppers are comparing similar options and delivery speed is the tie-breaker — competitive, considered categories.
- Ranking lift: if you're stuck just below competitors who already have the badge, earning it can be the unlock that moves you up.
Put plainly: if WFS fees are a small slice of your price and you're in a competitive category where you're losing the Buy Box on delivery, WFS is usually worth it. If fees are a large slice of a low price and you already win the Buy Box, it often isn't.
You don't have to go all-in
WFS is a per-product decision, not an all-or-nothing one. A common smart play is to put your hero SKUs — the ones where ranking and Buy Box matter most — on WFS, while self-fulfilling the long tail where the math doesn't justify it.
How we decide it for you
Our Rank Audit includes a WFS fit assessment: we look at your products' weights, margins, price points, and competitive position, and tell you which SKUs the 2-day badge is worth chasing — and which to leave self-fulfilled. No badge for the sake of a badge.
